Angela Merkel Is Time's 'Person Of The Year;' Donald Trump's Twitter Rant Exposed!
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been named Time Magazine's "Person of The Year," according to BBC.
Nancy Gibbs, Time Managing Editor announced the winner on the "Today Show" on NBC.
"For asking more of her country than most politicians would dare, for standing firm against tyranny as well as expedience and for providing steadfast moral leadership in a world where it is in short supply, Angela Merkel is 'Time's Person of the Year'." wrote Gibbs of Merkel.
She highlighted Merkel's handling of a wide range of issues, from the European economic crisis, which included Greece, Middle East and African flood refugees and the deadly attacks on the region.
"No one was tested the way she was," said Gibbs. "She has stepped up in a way that was uncharacteristic, even for her."
The award is given annually to the newsmaker considered to have the greatest impact on world events, according to Karl Vick, Time editor-at-large.
"It's pretty easily Angela Merkel," he said speaking to CNN, describing her as "the de facto leader of the European Union."
Vick said that the EU has faced "existential crises." Angela Merkel took the lead during the Greek debt crisis and navigated the way in welcoming immigrants. She has committed to accept 800,000 this year.
"Her response to that was extraordinary, and a lot of people say out of character, but really tectonic," Vick said. "Once again you have the question of the future of Europe at play, and her at the helm."
The magazine took to Twitter and posted why "Merkel is the world's most powerful woman."

Other Time Magazine finalists were ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-baghdadi, transgender figure Caitlyn Jenner, Black Lives Matter activists, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick and Donald Trump, Republican presidential candidate and businessman reality television star.
Trump posted on Twitter and it seems he did not like losing Time's "Person of the Year," according to Deadline.

61-year old Angela Merkel is the fourth woman to be named "Person of the Year" by Time Magazine since 1927.
The others were Queen Elizabeth II, former President of the Philippines Corazon Aquino and Wallis Simpson, the divorcee for whom King Edward VIII abdicated the British throne.
