Dropbox App Shutdown Includes Carousel And Mailbox In 2016? Official Statement Released!
Dropbox announced to shut down Carousel and Mailbox apps in 2016.
The Dropbox email app, Mailbox, will be removed effectively on Feb. 26, 2016 while the Carousel, will follow on March 31, 2016.
A blog post from Dropbox said, "The Carousel and Mailbox teams have built products that are loved by many people and their work will continue to have an impact," according to Android Central.
"We'll be taking key features from Carousel back to the place where your photos live-in the Dropbox app," the statement continued. "We'll also be using what we've learned from Mailbox to build new ways to communicate and collaborate on Dropbox."
The Dropbox app Mailbox was first released in 2013 and followed by Carousel's launch in 2014. The shutdown news was allegedly first expected due to unavailable updates for the apps beta version on Mac as well as in iOS devices.
The company said that the reason why the apps will be shut down because they had "increased our team's focus on collaboration and simplifying the way people work together," according to 9To5Mac.
"There's only so much an email app can do to fundamentally fix email," the Mailbox team added.
Before the shutdown takes effect, users have the choice to migrate their auto swipe pattern into other apps for future reference and use while Snoozed emails feature will be soon included in the "later" list.
Dropbox CEO Drew Houston and Co-founder Arash Ferdowsi wrote on a blog saying that, "To our Carousel and Mailbox users, thank you for embracing these products and we're sorry," according to Dropbox Blog.
"It's not easy to say goodbye to products we all love. But ultimately, we think this increased focus will help us create even better experiences for you in the months and years to come," the post continued.
