It was announced on November 28 that a Prime Video documentary Lee Soo Man: The King of K-Pop is currently in production.  Lee Soo Man was a Korean singer and founded SM Entertainment in 1989. This is also the talent agency where BoA began her music career.

We are confident this incredibly talented filmmaking team will deliver an emotional and compelling documentary that our Prime Video customers around the world will fall in love with."

Upon the announcement, many netizens shared mixed emotions over the production of this documentary. Some of them feeling second-hand embarrassment, commenting that Lee Soo Man is just full of himself and so on. Some even expressed anger upon the news.

The board of directors of SM Entertainment announced previously that they officially ended their production licensing contract with Like Planning, a music production company owned by Lee Soo Man. The contract is set by the end of 2022. Lee Soo Man will still remain as the largest shareholder of SM Entertainment with 18.73%.

SM Entertainment said that they have outsourced production to companies like Like Planning and spent millions of US dollars in royalties every year.
