Google has officially revealed the Pixel 6A, outfitted with the company's new design language and equipped with a custom chipset while keeping the 5A's $449 price tag. The model was announced among other devices that Google unveiled during its I/O developer conference.

The Pixel 6A uses a similar design trend to the 6 and 6 Pro set with a raised horizontal camera bump and a two-tone body. Its fingerprint sensor is below the screen rather than on the back panel. Size-wise, 6A is more compact than the previous 2 models, with a slightly smaller 6.1-inch OLED 1080p display. Its standard 60Hz refresh rate makes it an acceptable offer among midrange phones.

In terms of the camera, the specs of 6A are less robust than the flagship 6 and 6 Pro (deviating from the previous A-series phones which offered the same camera hardware as their pricier options). The Pixel 6A contains a 12-megapixel main rear camera with optical image stabilization that's more similar to the hardware used by the 5A. It also has a 12-megapixel ultrawide and the front camera uses 8-megapixel.

Though the Pixel 6A comes with a smaller 4,400mAh battery than the 5A, Google still claims it will last a full day just like its predecessor. This expands to three days when using the Extreme Battery Saver mode, a full day longer than claimed prior for the 5A.

Customers will have to wait a bit, however, as the 6A won't ship until July 28th, but preorders will begin a week earlier on July 21st. A single storage configuration of 128GB with 6GB RAM will be available. Compared to 5A's market launches limited to US and Japan, the 6A will be available in a lot more places, including Canada, the UK, Australia, Germany, and France. A full list of countries where it will be sold can be checked at the Google Store.
