Mozilla Dropped Google Financial Support For Firefox?; Company Wants More Competition?

Firefox developer, Mozilla announced on Wednesday that they no longer need Google to increase their revenue.

Mozilla believes that their browser, Firefox new deals can bring bigger amount of money for the company. Mozilla had been relying on Google's financial support for every web searches Firefox has launched, which gained the company a revenue of $330 million in 2014.

Mozilla facility based at Mountain View, California refused a global deal from Google in 2014 and instead accepted deals from other search engine offers such as United States Yahoo, China's Baidu and Russia's Yandex, according to CNET.

Mozilla's Chief business and legal officer, Denelle Dixon-Thayer, said that, "We don't have a commercial relationship with Google at this point," according to Tech Times. "It goes back to our strategy of how we can encourage more competition," the statement continued.

Mozilla Firefox is the only browser that doesn't have its own cloud or maintained by a tech company while Chrome is handled by Google and Safari by Apple. Mozilla is still in range with Microsoft's Internet Explorer with 15 percent browser users and is competing for the second rank in the market, according to Engadget.

Chief financial officer at Mozilla, Jim Cook, said, "We really look forward to displaying our results next year," reported Tech Times.

"2015 will show our continued track record of really strong financial results," Cook added.

Mozilla believes that their choice of independence and competition will give more options for the users in accessing information through the internet.

Mozilla and Google had been partners in improving the Web for social networking sites, blogging, businesses, communication and news publishers.

As of the moment, Mozilla is focusing onto their mobile Firefox browser for iOS and Android devices. Dixon-Thayer said, "We're going where the users are going," reported CNET. The company has been enhancing their mobile systems in which they recently launched Firefox version for Android and Apple devices two weeks ago.
