'Retro City Rampage' Sequel Announced; 'Shakedown Hawaii' Changes To 16-Bit Visual!
VBlank is developing a "Retro City Rampage" sequel called "Shakedown Hawaii!"
Developer and indie studio VBlank, is developing a new game called "Shakedown Hawaii" for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, according to PlayStation.Blog.
"Shakedown Hawaii" will serve as "Retro City Rampage's" sequel, shifting forward from the series' 8-bit origins to a more detailed 16-bit visual.
"Retro City Rampage" was a mix of modern open-world gaming ultraviolence and nostalgic references, reported Shack News.
It was filled with the 80's pop culture, that featured a "Back to the Future-like" storyline. The game was developed as a tribute to "Grand Theft Auto" for the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System.
The 8-bit "Grand Theft Auto" style adventure was released in 2012 on PC and was released gradually on most major platforms.
In 2014, an upgraded version, "Retro City Rampage DX" hit Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4 in 2014.
Earlier this year, developer Brian Provinciano released "Retro City Rampage 486" in a boxed limited edition, to pay tribute to the genre's origins.
As its predecessor, "Shakedown Hawaii" features the same overhead-view action, with more destructive weaponry and more on-screen characters.
The "Retro City Rampage" sequel takes place 30 years after the events of the original game. "Shakedown Hawaii" finds "The Player," who is the series' protagonist, out of shape, overweight and on the verge of bankruptcy.
In an attempt to rebuild a crumbling corporate empire, players complete missions and open-world activities, revealed Digital Trends.
"Retro City Rampage" and its sequel's sandbox approach, puts players in the middle of a massive open world filled with high-caliber weaponry and hijackable vehicles.
The trailer showcases screen-clearing weapons such as machine guns, flamethrowers and rocket launchers. It also showed a dual-stick control scheme.
More information will be released in the coming weeks as the game makes its first playable debut on December 5 to 6, at PlayStation Experience.
"Shakedown Hawaii" is lined up to launch for Nintendo platforms, PS Vita, PlayStation 4 and PCs.
The game's release date is yet to be announced.
