A popular dentist and ironically an AIDS activist from Manhattan, N.Y. was arrested Friday, on a series of charges from child pornography to intentionally trying to spread HIV, according to Daily Mail.

Other disturbing allegations like having sexual intercourse with animals, to offering dental work for a drug dealer in exchange for methamphetamine were also filed against the dentist, revealed Gawker.

59-year old John Wallace Wolf, a leading expert on patients with AIDS and dental practices is known to give lectures at New York University's Dental School.

He was arrested in his home in the West Village, where officers discovered a flash drive containing 246 files of mostly child pornography. A cache of methamphetamine was also seized.

Wolf was a well-known figure in Chelsea. In the 80's, he won a lawsuit against his landlord, who demanded that the dentist should not treat patients with HIV.

The dentist could be seen discussing the case on the television show, "People Are Talking" in 1988.

The FBI lanched an investigation into the dentist after a drug dealer was arrested in March, and later became an informant for the Brooklyn US Attorney's Office.

According to the informant, he sold large quantities of drugs, particularly meth, to the dentist.

John Wolf is also HIV positive, a fact seen on a criminal complaint filed by prosecutors, reported The New York Times.

The informant said that the dentist would puncture holes in condoms, in attempt to intentionally spread the HIV virus to his sexual partners.

Working in tandem with the FBI, the dealer secretly recorded conversations with the dentist.

Wolf shared that he regularly attended parties in Brooklyn where participants would engage in sexual intercourse with animals.

"Drug investigations have taken us down dark roads before, but nothing darker than the office practices of Dr. Wolf," said James J. Hunt in a statement.

Hunt is a special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's New York division.

Residents from Wolf's neighborhood and his brother, Robert Wolf were shocked at the charges. In a memorandum, Federal prosecutors referred to John's life as a "bizarre duality."

It is yet to be revealed what kind of sentencing dentist, Dr. John Wolf, will receive. In New York, maximum sentences for possession of child pornography range from 10 years to life imprisonment.
