WhatsApp Pink: Scam And Fake App That Can Access Your Phone And Steal Your Data
Beware of WhatsApp Pink! A fake and scam app that is currently circulating that can access your phone and steal your data.
WhatsApp Pink is a malicious app, allowing hackers to pilfer data and access your phone once installed. Phone users will receive a message that consists of a link and assumes to provide the current WhatsApp experience in pink color and deliver new features. A few WhatsApp users reported receiving a link through their phone that will turn the traditional green color into a pink one.
However, rather than conveying any changes to the original WhatsApp installation, the link will lead the user to another page. The new page or window will provide them an option to download the untrustworthy WhatsApp Pink app on their devices. This deceitful app is not related to WhatsApp or Facebook.
Cybersecurity researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia tweeted to advise the circulation of WhatsApp Pink. Also, he provided a few screenshots presenting how this app mimics the original WhatsApp interface to prey on suspected victims.
Rajaharia said that as soon as WhatsApp Pink is installed, it will start circulating a message containing the link for its downloading. The hacker's goal is to accumulate as much user data as possible.
The legit WhatsApp said, "Anyone can get an unusual, uncharacteristic or suspicious message on any service, including email, and anytime that happens we strongly encourage everyone to use caution before responding or engaging. On WhatsApp in particular, we also recommend that people use the tools that we provide within the app to send us a report, report a contact, or block contact."
Experts warned phone users not to open the link as it may comprise users' data and other important information. WhatsApp Pink is circulating a virus in WhatsApp groups along with an APK download link. Moreover, users should just stick to the basics and don't install any APK or apps not coming from the official Apple store or Google Play Store.
