Red Velvet Wendy’s Solo Debut Confirmed
On March 10th, an official from SM Entertainment confirmed to NewsN that Red Velvet's main vocalist would be returning with a solo album after more than one year of hiatus.
"Wendy is working on a solo album with the aim of being released in April. Please look forward to it," announced SM Entertainment.
Amidst the fear that Red Velvet will be disbanding soon, their agency announced that Wendy would be the first Red Velvet member to make a solo debut. Prior to the announcement of her solo album release, Wendy is slowly making her way back to the entertainment spotlight after being involved in an unfortunate incident during a rehearsal session at the SBS Gayo Daejun in December 2019.
The Red Velvet main vocalist first appeared at SMTOWN LIVE "Cultural Humanity" concert on New Year's Day together with her bandmates, Irene, Seulgi, Joy, and Yeri. Since January, Wendy is currently the co-host of JTBC's "Mystical Record Shop," which is a South Korean music talk show along with her labelmate Super Junior's Kyuhyun, Yoon Jon-shin, and Trot Empress Jang Yoon-jung. Aside from her hosting gig, Wendy has also gifted fans with the single "Two Words," which is an Official Sound Track for 2020 hit K-drama "START-UP" that stars Bae Suzy, Nam Joohyuk, and Kim Seon-ho.
Wendy's upcoming solo album is highly anticipated among fans. The 27-year-old singer has been known to be one of the top vocalists of K-Pop's third-generation groups. She has showcased her outstanding vocals in every Red Velvet song as well as on her various solo Official Soundtrack projects. This includes her duet with Seulgi for "Don't Push Me" and "I Can Only See You," which are the Official Soundtracks for "Uncontrollably Fond" and "Hwarang," respectively. Her other Official Soundtracks also include "Goodbye" for "The Beauty Inside," "What If Love" for "Touch Your Heart," and "My Day is Full of You" for "The King: Eternal Monarch."
We are excited about Wendy's solo debut!
