Shopee, a popular eCommerce platform selling various items to global consumers, has posted record-breaking sales during its big sale on December 12th, known to be the "12.12 Birthday Sale" and the "12.12 Big Christmas Sale."

They ended this year with record-breaking 12 million orders across seven markets in Southeast Asia and Taiwan in the first 24 minutes of the birthday sale, the Malay Mail reported.

At peak hours, an estimated one million items were sold as users selected from over two billion products, alongside the countries' famous brands Shopee has tied up with. Shopee offers products like apparel, mobile gadgets, accessories, home entertainment, groceries, toys, women's bags, personal care products, laptops, computers, sports gear, travel items, and so much more.

The Malay Mail added that in Malaysia, shopping activity was at unprecedentedly high levels, with a shopper making 180 orders within the same day.

Ian Ho, the regional managing director of Shopee, stated how they wanted to ensure the birthday sale would not just be a special day for the company, but also for the people who are supporting them.

"Being able to record another groundbreaking 12.12 Birthday Sale and coming a long way the past five years is extremely humbling for all of us at Shopee. This year, especially as 2020, has presented us with a whirlwind of experiences," Ho stated.

Among its surprises was conducting the Shopee 12.12 Birthday Sale and Big Christmas Sale television special, featuring the biggest stars, singers, performers, and celebrities across Asia.

One of these was GOT7, the K-Pop group, which is also Shopee Indonesia's official endorsers. GOT7, composed of members Mark, JB, Jackson, Jinyoung, Yugyeom, Bambam, and Youngjae, performed their popular hits with Shopee Indonesia. These included "Lullaby," "Just Right," and "Not By The Moon," among many others.

Stray Kids, the official endorsers of Shopee Indonesia, also engaged in a fan meet. The K-Pop groups also participated in the games organized by the shopping platform.

Founded by Forrest Xiaodong Li with chief executive officer Chris Feng, Shopee is a multinational company that highlights eCommerce and is located in Asia and worldwide. They have platforms in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Brazil.

Shopee was not the only shopping platform that conducted its December 12th big sale. Leading eCommerce platforms, Lazada and Zalora, also had their year-end sale, offering fashion items, household goods, and partnering with various countries' top brands. Lazada, featuring its endorser, "The King: Eternal Monarch," star Lee Min-ho with several other celebrities in Asia, also had their television countdown.
