BTS took the 2019 TIME 100 Reader Poll, beating the likes of former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, and more. The K-pop group's latest hit song "Boy With Luv" also gave them the highest debut yet on Billboard's Pop Songs chart.
BTS has once again made history when it won the 2019 TIME 100 Reader Poll with six percent of the readers' choice votes. This is the second consecutive TIME 100 Reader Poll award of the "Idol" hitmakers.
The magazine's editors are responsible for selecting the TIME 100 while the online reader poll allows the public to share its input. Among the runners-up for this year's list are ex-FLOTUS Michelle Obama, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, climate activist Greta Thunberg, and singer Lady Gaga. The magazine will release the official result of the 2019 TIME 100 Reader Poll on April 17.
BTS has been accustomed to be in different lists of TIME Magazine. The group has been named as one of TIME's Most Influential People on the Internet for both 2017 and 2018 as well. Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook have also been in the cover of the magazine last year and named as one of TIME Magazine's Next Generation Leaders after the group dropped their chart-topping Love Yourself: Answer and gave a speech at the United Nations.
BTS dropped their new EP, Map of the Soul: Persona, on April 12. This marks a new era for the group after wrapping up their Love Yourself trilogy.
Meanwhile, Billboard has updated its weekly charts including the Pop Songs that ranks the week's most popular pop songs based on mainstream top 40 radio airplay detections. The chart is being measured by Nielsen Music.
BTS's "Boy With Luv" featuring American singer Halsey has debuted at No. 35 on Billboard's Pop Songs chart. It is the highest debut of the group in the said chart.
Most Billboard charts that reflect sales and streaming numbers are based on data from a Friday-to-Thursday cycle. This means BTS's new EP, Map of the Soul: Persona, and its lead track "Boy With Luv" will show on Billboard's sales and streaming charts next week.
On the other hand, radio airplay charts follow a Monday-to-Sunday cycle. This allows "Boy With Luv" to hit the Pop Songs chart after three days of being played on the radio.
