One Direction member Louis Tomlinson has opened up about the status of his friendship with former bandmate Zayn Malik. Tomlinson confessed that it never gets better and it even deteriorated when Malik was a no-show to his tribute performance for his mother.

Tomlinson admitted during The Dan Wootton Interview podcast that it bothered him when Malik did not shows up when he performed "Just Hold On" at the X Factor UK in 2016 while the other three members of 1D arrived. The 27-year-old singer had a special performance at the reality TV show three days after his mother, Johannah Deakin, died from cancer.

Tomlinson said Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan flew from around the world to watch his performance and support during the most difficult time of his life. Like the three did that, Malik is a no-show.

"Truthfully, [our relationship] never really got better. I had a couple of calls with him after I lost my mum and all the boys had agreed to come to that performance and he didn't show so that really bugged me," he confessed.

Tomlinson also expressed how grateful he is to the other members for showing up at his performance. He said seeing the support of Harry, Niall, and Liam was all he needed that night. Despite the falling out between him and Malik, Tomlinson said he hopes that the "Pillowtalk" hitmaker is doing "alright."

This is not the first time Tomlinson threw shade on Malik. In December 2016, Malik released his song "Icarus Falls" that seemed to be about 1D. Tomlinson didn't take it well and tweeted shade at his former bandmate

"Proper confused. What a hypocrite!," Tomlinson wrote on Twitter at the time.

When asked about the possibility of a One Direction reunion, Tomlinson said he will definitely on board. The singer said he will be the first one to sign up. He believes that they have a responsibility to their fans to come back and perform for them but admitted he is not sure when it will happen.

One Direction debuted in September 2011. After nearly four years, Malik left the group and launched a solo career in 2016. The four remaining members of 1D continue as a group and released Made In The A.M. in July 2015 before they go on indefinite hiatus in January 2016.

Meanwhile, Tomlinson also hinted that he may not return as a judge on the X Factor amid Simon Cowell's plans to make changes in the show. The show creator reportedly planning on replacing contestants with celebrities.
