Korean actor Park Bo Gum is one of the most establishment Hallyu stars today. But he still wants to challenge himself by playing more demanding roles such as a psychopath.

In a recent interview with Sports Seoul (via AllKpop), Park revealed that he wants to try again playing the character of a psychopath in his next project. When asked as to why he chooses to play certain roles, Park explained that he wants to gain more experience in acting.

Park has gained recognition for being a versatile actor in both film and television. He played a diverse range of roles such as a genius Go player in Reply 1988, a Crown Prince in the Joseon era in Love in the Moonlight, and a free-spirited man in Encounter (2018).

He also previously portrayed a character that turned psychotic in the 2015 K-drama Hello Monster. Park was particularly praised by both critics and viewers for his performance as Lee Min and Jung Sun Ho in Hello Monster. He even won Best Supporting Actor award at the 29th KBS Drama Awards. However, the actor said it was not fully explained in the story how his character Lee Min changed into a different person.

"I want to play a psychopath if given the opportunity. My role in KBS2's Hello Monster was a character that turned that (psychotic) way due to a certain incident. Even though it's a dark character, I think it would be nice for the character to have a clear reason why he turned that way," the Love In The Moonlight actor said.

During the press conference for his recent K-drama Encounter, Park has also talked about his plans for future projects. He said he would probably choose a role that is a complete opposite of his Encounter character Kim Jin Hyuk.

In his melodrama with Song Hye Kyo, Park's character is a young, ordinary man who finds happiness even in simple things. He later fell in love to an older woman, Cha Soo Hyun (Song), who is also a divorcee and hotel CEO. Soo Hyun also lives under a spotlight because of her famous politician father and chaebol ex-husband.

The former Music Bank host is currently on his Park Bo Gum 2019 Asia Tour. He visited Japan over the weekend and set to perform for his fans in Thailand on February 16. He will also visit Singapore, Hong Kong, Jakarta, and Kuala Lumpur in March and Taipei on April 6.

Park Bo Gum is also set to drop his debut single in Japan next month. The single, titled "Bloomin," will be released along with the lead track of the same title and the song "Shining Future."
