'Outlander' Season 4 Actor Richard Rankin Hints What Roger Might Do Next + The Other Starz Series' Character He Would Like To Play
Outlander character Roger MacKenzie has his fair share of suffering and challenges when he time traveled to the 18th century to follow Brianna. Now, he needs to make a very difficult decision. But for Richard Rankin, who played the character, he wouldn't think twice if he is in the same situation as his Outlander character.
During his #AskRichardRankin session on Twitter, the actor was asked about what he would do when confronted with the same situation as Roger's. Rankin's response may definitely not the most romantic one that many fans could expect but it is the most logical answer considering the difficulties that Roger had already endured.
"I want to be romantic and say I'd stay and find the woman I loved, but sh**, I'm being chased through the country I don't know by Mohawk. Armed Mohawk. Who are in a bad mood with me. I'm going back through the stones," he admitted.
Does this mean Roger will most likely touch the Standing Stone in the woods and leave Brianna (Sophie Skelton)? That is one possibility as even Outlander executive producer Maril Davis sympathizes with Roger.
In the previous episodes of Season 4, viewers have seen how Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) beat up Roger, thinking that he is the man who raped Brianna. Young Ian then sold him to the Mohawks. He eventually escaped from the band of Native Americans and found a Standing Stone which could bring him back home alive.
Fans of Outlander who have read Diana Gabaldon's novels have already know what Roger's decision will be. However, it can also be recalled that Davis earlier admitted that there are some scenes in Season 4 that feature some minor departure from the Drums of Autumn to which the fourth installment has been based upon.
Roger is not seen in the preview for the upcoming Episode 11 hence it remains a mystery whether or not he touches the stone. Outlander Season 4 will return on January 13 with Episode 11.
Meanwhile, another fan also asked Rankin if there is some other character in the Outlander series that he would like to play. The actor replied that it would be Stephen Bonnet. The villain character of Outlander Season 4 is currently being portrayed by Downtown Abbey actor Ed Speelers.
Rankin did not elaborate as to why he wants to play the villainous role but Outlander fans could understand why. Bonnet is a charming man yet he is so evil that it leaves a mark on viewers like Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies).
Even Heughan earlier described the Irish pirate as worst than Black Jack Randall, who sexually assaulted Jamie in Season 1. Outlander executive producer Matt B. Roberts also described Bonnet as "a pure psychopath" which makes him more interesting and challenging for any actor to portray.
