'This Is Us' Scores Major Nominations From SAG; Sterling K. Brown Eyeing For A Back-To-Back Best Actor Win
This Is Us has proven that they are still one of the leading TV drama series today when the show scored two major nominations from the Screen Actors Guild. The nods came a week after the NBS show was snubbed by the Golden Globes.
The cast of This Is Us are nominated in two categories. The entire cast got a nod for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category while Sterling K. Brown got an individual recognition in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series category.
This Is Us was nominated and won both categories last year. Brown and the rest of the cast are now eyeing for a back-to-back win in the upcoming 2019 SAG.
Vying for the same award as Brown are Jason Bateman (Ozark), Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid's Tale), John Krasinski (Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan), and Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul). The competition of This Is Us cast for Best Drama Series Ensemble are The Americans, Better Call Saul, Handmaid's Tale, and Ozark.
Meanwhile, This Is Us cast members Mandy Moore (Rebecca), Chrissy Metz (Kate), Justin Hartley (Kevin), Susan Kelechi Watson (Beth), and Brown (Randall) have shared on social media their excitement over the latest SAG recognition. All of them thank the award-giving body for the nomination.
Brown also expressed his gratitude to SAG for the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture nomination for Black Panther. The actor had a brief appearance in the Marvel movie as Prince N'Jobu, Wakanda King T'Chaka's younger brother and uncle of T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman).
Last week, the NBC drama series was snubbed completely by the Golden Globes. In comparison to three nominations last year, the show did not receive any nomination from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association this time around. The show got a nod for Best TV Drama Series in the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. Brown got a nod and won the Best Actor in TV Drama series award while Metz was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Drama series.
This Is Us Season 3 is now on its winter break following the airing of Episode 9 on November 27. The show will resume airing on January 15 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. Meanwhile, the 2019 SAG Awards will broadcast live on January 27 on TNT and TBS.
