'Outlander' Author Diana Gabaldon Shows Support To Sam Heughan To Play James Bond
Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has shown her all-out support to Sam Heughan if the actor is chosen to be the next James Bond. In fact, Gabaldon said Outlander filming could make necessary changes if needed to accommodate Heughan's filming of a James Bond movie.
Gabaldon is confident that The Spy Who Dumped Me star is the perfect actor for the role. She even assured 007 fans that Heughan will bring something new to the iconic character.
"I'm sure that Sam would bring something different to the role. He is a fabulous actor. I have seen him do a number of amazing things as an actor. He would handle that role well," Daily Record quoted Gabaldon as saying.
The James Bond producers have yet to make an announcement about the franchise's future after Daniel Craig played the role for the last time next year. But the Outlander author has already a plan in mind if the series lead actor will be chosen for the role.
The renowned novelist assured Outlander clan that Sam Heughan doesn't need to leave the Starz drama when the Bond role is given to him in the future. She added that Outlander producers could work with Eon Productions, who make the Bond films, to allow Heughan a chance to play both Jamie Fraser for the hit TV series and James Bond at the same time.
Gabaldon said Heughan is filming two movies at the moment while Outlander is in hiatus. She believes that Heughan can do the same thing when the Bond producers pick the actor for the role.
"It would be a matter of scheduling the show and films for nine months of a year and then they're having a much longer hiatus between filming to allow the actors to take on other jobs," Gabaldon explained.
Sam Heughan has been one of the actors being betted to follow the footsteps of Craig, Roger Moore, Sean Connery, and Timothy Dalton. In the recent poll conducted by entertainment site Just Jared, fans voted the Outlander actor as the next 007. Heughan thanked those who voted for him and hinted that he is also interested in picking up the James Bond mantle.
"Thank you. Please ask Daniel [Craig] to leave the keys to the Aston inside, once he's done," Heughan tweeted in reference to Bond's signature car.
Craig will still return as James Bond for his fifth and final outing. The next 007 flick, titled Bond 25, is set to be released in October 2019. This means the audition for the suave character role is not happening until 2020.
