'Star Wars: Episode 9' Theories & Spoilers: Lando Might Play An Important Role On The Sequel Trilogy's Ending
After 38 years, fans might once again see Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode 9. There are swirling rumors Billy Dee Williams will be back to reprise his role as the gambler-turned-Cloud-Baron-administrator after a mysterious tweet emerged.
As Billy Dee Williams has been part of the Star Wars franchise, he usually attends conventions. In fact, he was recently seen at MegaCon Orlando. From here, the speculations about Lando's possible appearance in Star Wars: Episode 9 grows stronger.
In a tweet by MegaCon Orlando, it revealed Billy Dee Williams is currently undergoing training, in spite of just turning 81-years-old. "He's training 3 times a week with a trainer and has a whole new diet," the tweet reads. Although this might not be a massive spoiler about Star Wars: Episode 9, the time of its revelation seems to be implying something.
According to Screen Rant, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill were also surrounded by rumors before they were confirmed to appear in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The on-screen siblings also had the same training schedules. So, this might mean that Bill Dee William's training is a step towards his return to Star Wars: Episode 9.
Also, with the death of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Lando's return as one of the franchise's original characters will make sense, per Daily Express. Also, Lucasfilm earlier revealed that it wouldn't use CGI to make Carrie Fisher appear in Star Wars: Episode 9, although the sequel trilogy's final installment was said to be about her.
Lando's possible appearance in Star Wars: Episode 9 could be an essential part of the movie's ending. With the surprising death of Carrie Fisher in 2016, he could be the one who will pass the torch to the new generation of Star Wars stars.
Also, as Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) still have to be trained to face the new Supreme Leader Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), no one can do it but Lando. Star Wars: Episode 9 is set to be released on December 20, 2019.
