They may have started out with an uneasy friendship, but it looks like Han Solo and Chewbacca were destined to work with Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope. The new film Solo: A Star Wars Story has just revealed an unexpected connection between the characters that was brought into play by the surprise appearance of a Star Wars prequel character in the Ron Howard movie. Fans are already aware that Obi-Wan Kenobi employed Han Solo and Chewbacca in an effort to get himself and Luke Skywalker out of Tatooine. In A New Hope, the Jedi Master approached the Wookiee in the cantina in Mos Eisley and was immediately led to Han. Although this would be their first meeting, Solo: A Star Wars Story has just revealed that the captain and crew of the Millennium Falcon already had a connection to their future cargo.
In Solo: A Star Wars Story, Han, Chewbacca, and Tobias Beckett were tasked with procuring a massive amount of coaxium for Dryden Vos. After a risky trip to Kessel, they discover that the truth about the Cloud-Riders being survivors from planets that have been destroyed by the Empire. Naturally, Han insists on helping the rebels, much to Beckett's chagrin. Nevertheless, Beckett seemingly abandons the mission but not before name-dropping the planet Tatooine during his exit.
The mention of Anakin and Luke Skywalker's home planet is not the only thing that connected Solo: A Star Wars Story to the original and prequel series. After killing Dryden Vos to help Han escape, Q'ira called their real leader to take her former employer's place in Crimson Dawn. It was then revealed that the criminal organization's big boss is none other than Darth Maul. Han almost met the villain who lost his legs to Obi-Wan Kenobi and almost killed Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Rebels Season 3.
It may have been a close call for Han and Darth Maul, but things still turned out well for the rebellion. The future of other Star Wars characters could also feature more connections. Solo: A Star Wars Story premieres on May 25.
