A lot of fans reacted to Martin Freeman's claim about doing Sherlock Season 5. When the 46-year-old Black Panther star said the BBC series is "not fun anymore," the show's main star, Benedict Cumberbatch, had something to say about this.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the 41-year-old Avengers: Infinity War star contradicted what Martin Freeman said. "It's pretty pathetic," he said. Benedict Cumberbatch explained if it is "all that it takes" for his co-actor to accept the reality of creating hit television series, like Sherlock Season 5, then it is a sad thing for him.

Benedict Cumberbatch also doesn't agree with Martin Freeman when he mentioned something about people's expectations to their show; thus, there might not be a Sherlock Season 5. "There's a level of obsession where [the franchise] becomes [the fans'] even though we're the ones making it," the Doctor Strange actor explained. If the Fargo star is affected with that, then he doesn't feel the same.

To recall, in an interview with Martin Freeman with the same publication in March, he revealed doing Sherlock Season 5 might be impossible because of what fans expect from them. "People's expectations, some of it's not fun anymore," he said. He even compared it to being like a "mini-Beatles thing."

Martin Freeman also said living up to people's expectations is not a thing to be enjoyed. They always have to do this and that, and if they don't, they will be mocked. It has been more than a year since the fourth season of crime drama television series based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories' television adaptation was released. Now, the future of Sherlock Season 5 remains uncertain.

In fact, TVLine reported there are still no plans to make Sherlock Season 5. The show's co-creator, Mark Gatiss, even hinted, in an interview with The Sun in 2017, that fans might not see another installment of the BBC series. This is mainly because of its lead stars' busy schedules.

Mark Gatiss even told the publication at the time that the show's Season 4 ended as an open-close finale that could either be continued or not. As of now, fans will see their favorite duo as parts of Marvel Cinematic Universe, although both of their characters haven't met yet. Martin Freeman has been a part of Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther, while Benedict Cumberbatch plays Doctor Strange and will be seen in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War on April 25.
