Somebody's taking over a huge amount of screen time when 'Attack on Titan' Season 3 returns and it's not going to be Eren Jaeger.

When the hit anime series returns for its third season, expect more of Captain Levi.

Director Koizuka Masashi and chief animation director Araki Tetsuri made sure to let fans know about Eren's expanded role in the upcoming season.

"He was injured in season 1, so he wasn't very active in season 2. He will return to the front lines in season 3. It can be said that Levi exists now to influence the story's direction, so based on that notion, he has become the focal point of the entire work," he said to Animedia.

However, don't get too worried because Levi isn't the series' new protagonist. In fact, Tetsuro said that that was a bit of an exaggeration. However, their animators love drawing him and are really enjoying it.

In the upcoming season, Levi's fighting skills will be put to use as well as his character's backstory. Fans will be able to dive deeper into his childhood that will play a significant role in the entire plot of the series. It is not only Levi's backstory that will be explored, though. Other characters' childhood will also be shown in the third season of 'Attack on Titan.'

Tetsuro also recently revealed more details about the upcoming season.

"We had wonderful teamwork in Season 2, so we'll build on that plunge into Season 3. Pay attention to those that are finally revealed to be Titans in Season 2 and how their fates are settled. We want to watch it soon, so I hope you all look forward to it," he said.

Last season confirmed Eren isn't the only Titan Shifter. It revealed that some of the boy's comrades are actually the same as him such as Reiner and Betholt, and Ymir.

With this, fans got even more excited for the return of the series. Even the creator of the series, Hajime Isayama is looking forward to the return of the series as this will give him a do-over of the corresponding manga volumes. Isayama recently expressed his disappointment with the manga volumes that season 3 of the anime will be based on.

"After writing Volume 12, in the period between 13 and 16 was when I felt the most disappointed with my work. Hopefully, now that season 3 is being made, I'll have the chance to wipe away that regret and replace it with something I'm proud of," he said.
