If you are in the city of South Korea's Jeonju, don't miss visiting Jeonju Hanok Village. The village is not only unique on its own but it has accumulated more than 20 million visitors in the last two years.

South Korea has so much to offer to tourists. Jeonju Hanok Village is one of the best eight trails selected by The Korea Tourist Organization.

In 2017, around 10.9 million people were recorded to have visited this beautiful village that is enriched with more than 800 Korean traditional houses, which are called in colloquial term Hanok. The data was based on telecommunication records including debit and credit cards usage inside the village.

The foundation history of Hanoks goes back to the 14th century during the Joseon Dynasty. T

According to The Korea Herald, although almost all the age groups visit Jeonju Hanok Village, still the most of visitors were in their 40s, followed by those in their 30s, 20s, and 50s. On the other hand, the records reveal that apart from various places in Korea and other nations, more than 30 percent of the tourists came from Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province.

Why is Jeonju Hanok Village highly popular among national and international tourists?

Jeonju Hanok Village located in Jeonju is highly famous among Koreans and global tourists due to its centuries-old traditional buildings, which strongly puts contrast to the modern cities around it.

In 2010, the village was designated as an International Slow City where the natural beauty blends with traditional culture marvelously. Excluding the main city Seoul, this place is ranked third among major tourist cities throughout the entire nation, behind Busan (South Korea's second-most-populous city after Seoul) and Jeju (the largest island off the coast of the Korean Peninsula).

Jeonju was once the spiritual capital of the Jeoju Dynasty

Visiting the city of Jeonju will take you back to history when it played an important role in the long history of Korea. Not only it was the capital of the Hubaekje Kingdom established by Gyeon Hwon in the 900s, it was once the spiritual capital of the Jeoju Dynasty. Don't forget to visit also other destinations like Namsangol Hanok Village, Korean Folk Village and Hahoe Folk Village located nearby.

You will be amazed to know that Jeonju municipal government is promoting it as a global cultural tourism destination.
