The closing of the Winter Olympics 2018 has brought on intense excitement. With the many Korean personalities who performed and watched, this also sheds light on one of the most popular celebrity couples in the country, Song Joong Ki, and Song Hye Kyo.

The Winter Olympic 2018 ended with a spectacular ceremony but it did not go without some viral videos and trending styles. Korean boy band EXO performed on the last day of PyeongChang 2018 Olympics and fans were thrilled with their performance. However, what went viral on the internet is their outfit. Many thought the K-pop group was dressed like Colonel Sanders of the popular American food chain. Some even compared the group to the food brand's mascot. The closing ceremony also featured traditional and contemporary Korean music and dance.
Spectators also saw once again the athletes of North and South Korea marching together under a unified flag. In his closing remark, South Korean president Moon Jae-in vowed to continue the peace that started in Pyeongchang. The Winter Olympic 2018 closing ceremony was attended by 35,000 spectators, including foreign dignitaries such as US President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump.
Song Joong Ki & Song Hye Kyo as Athletes
Fans could not have met Descendants of the Sun's Captain Yoo Si-jin and Dr. Kang Mo-yeon if Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo pursue their other passion other than acting. The newlywed couple could have also joined the recently concluded Winter Olympics 2018 if they only stick on skating on the ice than acting in front of the camera.
It has been revealed that Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have athletic abilities before they enter the entertainment industry. On its "The List 2017," the tvN named some of the Korean artists who could have participated in the Olympics if they didn't set foot into the entertainment business, AllKPop noted. Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo are amongst those.
Song Joong Ki on Ice
The male half of the Song-Song couple is used to be a short track speed skater. During his school days, Soong Joong Ki competed in various games including the National Sports Festival in which he represented his hometown Daejeon thrice. At one time in his athletic career, he also competed against athlete Lee Ho Seok in a national game.
He played the sports since he was a first grader in elementary school. Soong Joong Ki previously said he used to skate alongside Viktor Ahn, a South Korean-born Olympian who eventually defected to Russia. Soong Joong Ki, however, gave up skating and his dream to win the gold in the Winter Olympics after he injured his ankle when he was 15. The actor, however, did get a chance to play a role of a national speed skater in the Korean drama Triple.
Song Hye Kyo as a Figure Skater
Song Joong Ki's wife used to be a figure skater. Song Hye Kyo performed during her junior high school days as well. The actress wanted to be like her skating idol Kim Yuna. KDramaStars quoted Song Joong Ki's former teacher says the K-drama actress has a lot of talent and could have gone far as a skater.
Song Joong Ki quit skating and pursued acting but she was seen in a number of advertisements and K-dramas showing off her abilities while gliding on the skating rink. If the Song-Song couple pursued their first passion, they would have been the most good-looking athletes on ice in the Winter Olympics 2018.
The couple tied the knot in October 2017. They first worked together in the international hit Korean drama Descendants of the Sun. At the time, they were already rumors that they are dating in real life but the two denied the claims. More than a year after the show ended, the stars surprised fans of their engagement. The two finally admitted that they developed feelings for each other on the set of their show.
