OnePlus 5 Face Unlock Feature Might Come With Android Oreo Update
OnePlus 5 presently runs on Android 7.0 Nougat OS, however, the company has officially announced to update the phone to Android 8.0 Oreo in the upcoming days. OnePlus, at the release event of OnePlus 5T in New York confirmed to bring Android 8.0 Oreo update to OnePlus 5 by the end of 2017. With the Android Oreo update, OnePlus 5 will get OnePlus 5T-like Face Unlock feature.
It should be noted that OnePlus hasn't released any official statement on the same as of yet. But, OnePlus 5 users have apparently received the Android 8.0 Oreo beta 2 update on his device and with that found out the Face Unlock feature in the settings log. According to the reports, with the Android 8.0 Oreo update, the OnePlus 5 user received a newly redesigned notification panel, Face Unlock feature from the OnePlus 5T, PIP Mode, New Camera and Gallery interface, and a few other features, as reported by Android Authority.
One of the caveats of Face Unlock is that it does not function seamlessly in low-light situations. As there is no special hardware to facilitate recognition in dim-lit situations, the feature relies on software, which, the company reportedly warns, is less secure than the fingerprint sensor. Other than the Face Unlock feature, OnePlus 5 stands to get all the features of Android 8.0 Oreo that includes Notification Dots, Picture-in-Picture mode for multi-tasking, Instant Apps, and a set of new emoji among others, as reported by BGR.
OnePlus confirmed to bring Oreo update to its year as well as last years' flagship phones. Living up to its promises, OnePlus last week, rolled out the Android Oreo update to the OnePlus 3 and 3T users, with the statement that this is the last software update for them. Yes, OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users will no longer receive any software update, however, the company does promise to roll out the monthly security updates.
