German car manufacturer Volkswagen is slowly taking actions to win back the trust of its customers after the company was slammed for the alleged emission scandal.

A couple of months ago, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) accused the German company for allegedly installing a device on its cars to cheat the emission tests.

Since the issue blown out, BBC News noted Nov. 4 that Volkswagen suffered its first quarterly loss after 15 years. Aside from that, the German car manufacturer will also recall millions of cars in Europe, UK and in the US because of the emission scandal.

Amid the controversies, Volkswagen reportedly plans to announce a new sales initiative in the US in hopes to rebuild trust of its clients.

International Business Times reported Monday that the announcement of the plan came after the engineers of the company reportedly acknowledged their role in fabricating carbon-dioxide emissions figures in Volkswagen's cars.

Reports have revealed that the German company plans to make the announcement next week. In addition, Volkswagen also plans to provide debit cards to car owners affected by the emission scandal.

Further reports have revealed that one of the cards will be a cash gift that can be used by the customers of the German company.

These plans were reportedly verified by a spokesman of the company. Although he did not provide further information about the plans, the spokesman revealed that Volkswagen has already notified US dealers about the plan last week. He also said that details of the new sales initiatives will be published by the US unit of the company in the coming week.

"This is a good first step that breaks the silence," says Steve Kalafer, co-owner of Flemington Car & Truck Country. "The question is whether customers will be required to release VW of liability.'

Kalafer goes on, "It's a nice first step, if it's a no-strings-attached goodwill gift from the manufacturer."
