'Blue Bloods' Season 8 Episode 1 Synopsis: Danny Wants To Retire?
After seven seasons, is Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) giving up his badge in "Blue Bloods" Season 8? The synopsis of the premiere episode titled "Cutting Loses" sees the police family once again go through personal and professional crises.
The hit police drama returns with brand new episodes this Friday on CBS and, already, it opens with serious problems for the lead characters. Danny wants to leave the force and live a civilian life, but the city -and, more importantly, his family - obviously still needs him.
"Danny contemplates retiring until Erin (Bridget Moynahan) enlists him to help her with a case involving her ex-husband, Jack (Peter Hermann). Also, Jamie (Will Estes) and Eddie (Vanessa Ray) go undercover as a couple," the synopsis read (via Spoiler TV). "Frank (Tom Selleck) butts heads with the new mayor of New York City Margaret Dutton (Lorraine Bracco)."
Considering what happened in the Season 7 finale, Danny thinking about retiring does not come as a surprise. After all, he watched his house go up in flames after confronting a massive and powerful drug cartel is a serious and rather traumatic event. As a law enforcer, his and his family's lives are in constant danger.
However, it is a relief that despite his hesitations, he is still ready to jump into a new case when someone - his sister at that - asks him for his help. At least for now, fans should sigh a breath of relief that he will not abandon his duties to his city just yet.
Meanwhile, Bracco ("The Sopranos," "Rizzoli & Isles") will recur this season. As previously reported by EW, the character who rises as a mayor following the resignation of Poole is a long-time public servant who works to make the city a better place. She, however, will try but will find it difficult to control the police commissioner, Frank Reagan.
