GFriend's Yerin on Rest Leave After Appendicitis Diagnosis
A major health issue has caused Yerin of GFriend to put a temporary stop to her idol activities. The girl group's label Source Music posted a statement on the GFriend fan cafe to announce the news, saying that Yerin has been diagnosed with appendicitis.
The medical issue came to light when GFriend was performing at the SBS Global K-pop Super Concert on September 24, reports Soompi. At the show, Yerin began experiencing abdominal pain. The idol was quickly brought to a nearby hospital where she received the diagnosis of appendicitis.
Source Music assured fans that Yerin's condition is not serious enough to require surgery. But the doctors told her that it was necessary for her to rest, otherwise, the condition could get worse and she would then have to get surgery. So for the good of her health, Yerin will not be participating in the GFriend promotional activities that have been scheduled from September 28 to October 1.
GFriend has been quite busy of late. In August, the group dropped the album "Parallel" as well as the single "Love Whisper." The song quickly shot up the Korean music charts and the "Love Whisper" music video garnered more than 7 million views on YouTube on its first day, according to Billboard.
In September, the group had another comeback. As we reported in this article, GFriend released their 5th mini repackage album "Rainbow" accompanied by the new song "Summer Rain." On September 19, Gfriend performed "Summer Rain" on SBS MTV "The Show" and achieved the second-highest score ever by an artist on the program, notes Amino. GFriend also had a win with that song on Mnet "M! Countdown."
The SBS Global K-pop Super Concert took place in Daejeon on September 24, when Yerin began to be affected by her condition. She will miss GFriend's upcoming scheduled activities, which include the Youth Ki UP Talk Concert on September 28 and the Baekje Cultural Festival on September 29, according to GF Squad.
