BTS, Billboard Chart Heroes: All the Records Broken So Far
The new BTS mini-album "Love Yourself: Her" made history by breaking into the top ten of the Billboard 200 in its first week. BTS is the first Korean and first Asian-region act to accomplish such a feat.
The Billboard chart achievement caps an amazing week for BTS, who has broken multiple records only a few days after the September 18 release of the album as well as the single "DNA." Let's take a look at all the records BTS has broken so far in this comeback.
The group now has the highest-charting K-pop album ever to make the Billboard 200, which ranks the best-selling albums of the week in the U.S. "Love Yourself: Her" made it to No. 7 on the chart for the week ending on September 21, says Billboard. The album had sales of 31,000 units, broken down into 18,000 in traditional albums sold, almost 4,000 in track equivalent albums (TEA) and slightly under 10,000 in streaming equivalent albums.
BTS also held the previous record for a K-pop album ranking on the Billboard 200. The group's 2016 release "Wings" was the former record-holder, achieving the No. 26 ranking on the chart and 11,000 copies sold in its first week. And BTS now has the most albums by any K-pop artist to enter the Billboard 200. "Love Yourself: Her" is the fifth BTS release to make the chart.
The hope now is for the new BTS single "DNA" to break into the Billboard Hot 100 chart, says Yonhap News. Despite their previous successes, the group has yet to get a release on the Hot 100.
Whatever happens, this has been an amazing run for the K-pop boy band. BTS became the first Korean artist to break into Spotify's Global Top 50 chart when "DNA" ranked No. 50, according to Soompi. BTS also became the first Korean act to reach more than 1 billion streams on Spotify.
"Love Yourself: Her" took the No. 1 ranking on iTunes Top Albums charts in 73 countries including the U.S. The song "DNA" topped the iTunes songs charts in 29 countries, and reached No. 4 on the American iTunes songs chart. It is the first K-pop single to break into the top five of the iTunes Top Songs chart of the U.S.
On YouTube, the "DNA" music video has become the fastest K-pop MV to reach 50 million views, which it hit in less than a week, reports the Korea Herald. Earlier, it had achieved the record for most views for a K-pop MV in 24 hours.
