'Power' Season 5 Air Date & Spoilers

On Sunday, Starz aired the explosive fourth season finale of "Power." The network has already renewed the stalwart drama to Season 4 earlier this year, but when will it return to television and what can fans expect in the next chapter of the story of James "Ghost" St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick)?

As a recap, the finale titled "You Can't Fix This" delivered a high-octane revenge plot that saw Ghost team up with Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) and Kanan (50 Cent) to take down murderous Dre (Rotimi Akinosho). The episode also hinted that Maria Suarez (Maria Rivera) is back and she seems to be tracking Tommy. 

Hardwick and the cast of "Power" are already hard at work with Season 5. Starz renewed the crime drama to Season 5 and Season 6 in July, shortly after the fourth season premiered with 1.9 million viewers.

"It's actually interesting because we just turned in the first episode of Season 5," revealed show creator, Courtney Kemp, to Deadline. " Right now, we're looking at it as a direct pickup, and it begins in a place of Angela (Lela Loren) trying to figure out, hey, what the hell happened here? Then from that perspective, then it's all about Tasha (Natushi Naughton) trying to kind of keep Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) out of trouble."

She also explained why "Power" had to kill Raina (Donshea Hopkins) in the Season 4 penultimate episode. Kemp said that Tariq's actions had to include serious consequences that he had to confront at some point and that is why someone else had to die in his place. 

As for the trio, do not expect this harmonious working relationship to last. The executive producer compared the unlikely team-up to a family reunion wherein, while each member tries to be courteous and civil, their issues are still at play but kept under the surface. 

"All those relationships shift and have different resentments, and old hurts, and old wounds, and all those things are still kind of all working underneath the surface," she pointed out. Right now, they were united by the common goal to eliminate Dre. 

Starz has not announced an exact premiere date for "Power" Season 5. However, expect new episodes to air sometime in 2018.
