American Horror Story: Cult

Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will not be the only "American Horror Story" alum to appear in the upcoming season titled, "Cult." The new trailer released by FX teased the reappearance of mass murderer, Twisty the Clown.

To recall, the popular "AHS" monster first appeared in Season 4, "Freak Show." He began as an entertainer for children's party but, later joined Rysty Westchester's Traveling Carnival. When jealous "freaks" started a rumor that he is a child-molester, his clown business went down.

This led him to a failed suicide attempt where he blew his jaw off with a shotgun. In an attempt to cover up his disfigurement, he started wearing a wide-grinned prosthetic mask.

In "American Horror Story: Cult," viewers will not see the same Twisty haunt Paulson's ALly Mayfair-Richards. Instead, he is the hero of a comic book series.

At a Q&A with reporters, show creator Ryan Murphy (via Digital Spy) teased how and why he brought back Twisty. He explained that the character represents the growing tension in the U.S. ever since Donald Trump was elected in November.

"It's just, sort of a meta idea that the kid in the show - that the Twisty has his own comic book, and that could be one of Sarah Paulson's phobias," he stated. "But, really, it's, sort of, everything is on high alert now, and it was a way to, I think, write about a growing sense of anxiety that we in the culture have," he added.

Based on the trailer, Peters' "Cult" will use Twisty to terrorize Paulson and her family. Viewers did see Billie Lourd's Winter Anderson, who posed as a babysitter, give Allie and Ivy's (Alison Pill) son a figure of the murderous clown.

"American Horror Story: Cult" will also star Cheyenne Jackson, Colton Haynes, Billy Eichner, Adina Porter, Lena Dunham, Emma Roberts, Mare Winningham, Leslie Grossman, Frances Conroy and Cher. The popular horror anthology will return on Sept. 5 on FX.
