As more and more online personalities emerge on the internet today, SK Telecom joins the growing number of mobile video platforms by launching their own on Monday, which the company named Hotzil, reported Korea JoongAng Daily on Tuesday.

The move also aims to widen the company's business portfolio, which has been providing network services to South Korea since 1984.

The Hotzil app is developed as a multichannel network, which will produce, promote and manage the creation of online video content, while receiving a percentage of the advertising revenue. It is available on all carriers, with a total of 23 channels on music, beauty, education, gaming and entertainment hosted by famous online personalities.

SK Telecom's entry into the online video platform (OVP) segment will put the company in direct competition with another South Korean company CJ E&M, which Korea Herald noted on Oct. 22 is now facing a $50 million lawsuit in the U.S. for music copyright infringement.

CJ E&M is included in the top 50 multichannel networks in the world in terms of the volume of subscribers.

Among the top 10 global OVP players is Boston, Massachusetts-based software company Brightcove with their Video Cloud app, which continues to enhance their services for their subscribers.

Venture Beat noted on Oct. 26 that Brightcove added a new technology that counters softwares blocking video ads on desktop and mobile devices as part of the company's optimization solution known as the Brightcove Lift to enable companies to get the full potential of their revenues from video ads.

"With Brightcove Lift, we've seen significantly improved quality and consistency in the video playback experience across mobile devices which allowed us to re-enable ad delivery," said Vox Media product manager, Brendan Murphy. "Today, Brightcove is powering the majority of Vox Media's online properties on mobile. Using Brightcove Lift, we are able to deliver a rich mobile ad experience without compromising user experience."

Online video platforms are continuously growing as it provides a wide range of video content to subscribers, from movies and TV shows to the millions of YouTube videos.
