American actress and model, Chloë Grace Moretz, will be the star of Universal's live-action remake of "The Little Mermaid," according to CNN.

"Been waiting a long time to tell you guys," said Moretz, confirming the news on Twitter, Friday, Nov. 7. "#TheLittleMermaid going to be a beautiful experience! Can't wait to show everyone my Mermaid," reveals US Weekly.

In 2005, Chloë earned recognition for her role in "The Amityville Horror." She then went on to receive several guest-starring roles on television and a small role on "Big Mommas House 2."

Moretz gained Hollywood with 2010's "Kick-Ass," an action film by director Matthew Vaughn. The film was based on a comic book series by John Romita Jr. and Mark Millar.

Chloë Grace Moretz received critical acclaim for her performance. Before cameras rolled, the actress trained with Jackie Chan's stunt crew for three months and did most of the stunts herself while on location and filming.

A few years later, she reprised her role as "Hit-Girl" in "Kick Ass 2."

"The Little Mermaid" has been in the works since 2011 but still lacks a director; after Sofia Copolla exited the project earlier this year, according to The Guardian.

Copolla was the second director to leave the project following Joe wright, citing creative differences.

"Love Actually" writer Richard Curtis will be working on the film's screenplay and Working Title's Eric Fellber and Tim Bevan will be the movie's producers.

Live-action mermaids have not been seen on the big screen since the 1984 hit movie "The Splash" and teen movie "Aquamarine" in 2006. A few cameos were seen in "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Harry Potter."

Universal's announcement could bust Walt Disney's plans on producing a live-action version of their 1989 hit, which grossed over $200 million worldwide.

Chloë Grace Moretz will appear in "The 5th Wave," a YA adaptation. The film is set to be released on January 15.
