BTS Vs EXO: Which K-Pop Group Dominates Twitter In 2017?
K-pop male group BTS and the Mnet show titled "Produce 101 Season 2" seized the top ranks in the list of top keywords released by Twitter Korea for the first half of 2017. The list was released on July 12, Wednesday.
The top keywords were based on the data analysis of tweets gathered from Korean users. The data are then divided into subgroups, which are music, TV/film and social.
BTS ranked number one while EXO ranked number two in the music category based on the data from Jan. 1 to June 30 obtained by OSEN. Also in the top 10 were Red Velvet, TWICE, I.O.I, Highlight, GFRIEND, GOT7, SECHSKIES and Lovelyz.
In the TV/film category, "Produce 101" Season 2 was number one followed by the tvN show "New Journey to the West," the film "Your Name," the SBS show "Fantastic Duo 2" and the MBC drama series "Missing 9" in the second, third, fourth and fifth places, respectively. The JTBC show "Ask Us Anything," the tvN show "The Last 48 Hours of My Life," the Mnet show "High School Rapper," the MBC show "Infinite Challenge" and the JTBC show "Let's Eat Dinner Together" also made it to the top 10.
In the social category, the top keyword was Presidential election followed by South Korea's current President Moon Jae In. The other keywords in the list under this category were blacklist, polls, search and seizure, Park Geun Hye, arrest warrant, fine dust, sexual minority and murder case.
It appears that EXO will not make it easy for BTS to rule over Twitter again in the remaining half of 2017. The former is the first K-pop act to utilize the Instant Unlock feature of the microblogging site, according to Billboard.
On July 10, Monday, EXO communicated with their fans through a surprise V App live broadcast. During the broadcast, Baekhyun told their fans that the group will dominate the second half of 2017.
