‘Suspicious Partner’ Star Ji Chang Wook, Kim So Hyun Gain Criticisms Over Voice Acting In ‘Your Name’
Several South Korean stars have had the experience of acting as voice talents for foreign films released in the said Asian country such as Ji Chang Wook and Kim So Hyun. Recently, netizens criticized the "Suspicious Partner" actor and the "Ruler: Master of the Mask" actress for their voice acting in "Your Name."
"Your Name" is a Japanese animated movie that is set for release in South Korea in mid-July. Ahead of its local launch, Ji Chang Wook and Kim So Hyun were tapped as voice talents for the said film. The "Suspicious Partner" actor portrayed the lead male role Taki, while the "Ruler: Master of the Mask" star played the female protagonist Mitsuha.
Shortly after the teaser clip for the Korean dubbed movie was released, a few critics commented that Ji Chang Wook and Kim So Hyun were not suited to become voice actors, Korea Herald reported. Some netizens even highlighted that despite being good actors on screen, the "Suspicious Partner" star and the "Ruler: Master of the Mask" actress failed to depict their respective "Your Name" characters through their voices.
One of the negative comments even claimed that Ji Chang Wook and Kim So Hyun's voice acting were too natural that the viewers focused more on the two stars' voices instead of watching Taki and Mitsuha's adventures. Another critic mentioned that viewing the teaser clip for "Your Name" was more like watching the two South Korean stars' story unfold on screen.
In other news, "Ruler: Master of the Mask" remained at the top of the mid-week TV rating race and even bested "Suspicious Partner." The Ji Chang Wook starrer landed at number two with its episodes 35 and 36 reaching nationwide viewership shares of 8 percent and 9.2 percent, respectively. Kim So Hyun's historical series garnered TV ratings of 14.9 percent for its episode 35, while episode 36 posted ratings of 12.8 percent, according to Nielsen Korea, as cited by Yonhap News.
"Suspicious Partner" and "Ruler: Master of the Mask" will air its final episodes on July 12 and 13 on SBS and MBC, respectively. The Ji Chang Wook and Kim So Hyun Korean-dubbed movie "Your Name" will hit local movie theaters on July 13. Watch the teaser clip below:
