Most of the solo artists that made it big in South Korea’s music industry were born out of popular idol groups. Gong Minzy and Kim Chung Ha are two of the several idols that are trying to pave their way through the competition as solo artists.

Minzy debuted as an idol together with the girl group, 2NE1. She promoted with the said YG Entertainment group since 2009 and decided to leave the group after promoting with them for seven years. One year later, 2NE1 officially disbanded after the group remained inactive due to the members’ solo projects and member Bom’s controversy.

This year, Minzy finally debuted as a solo artist and released her first EP, “Minzy Work 01”, which included tracks “Uno” and “Ninano”. The former 2NE1 member recently sat down for an interview with Star magazine and said she aims to show more of her potential and some of her mature sides through her solo career. However, Minzy confessed that she felt lonely promoting alone since was used to promoting a group. She pointed out how she and the rest of the 2NE1 members used to be loud together. She added that she hoped that fans will cherish the group forever.

Aside from Minzy, former I.O.I. member Kim Chung Ha has also revealed that she wants to promote with a group as well. I.O.I was a product of the first season of Mnet show’s “Produce 101” and it officially disbanded last year. In an interview with Sports Seoul, the idol singer admitted that she hopes to be in a girl group again. In fact, she’s actually looking out for news from her own entertainment agency just in case they decide to debut a new girl group.

Chung Ha recently made her solo debut and fans couldn’t be happier with her career choice since she was one of the powerful candidates in “Produce 101”. Chung Ha revealed that she still can’t believe that she’s doing well as a solo artist especially when she just kicked off her solo career. She said that the success constantly reminds her to do her best all the time.
