Rosé 'new trick' Music Video Hits 25M Views, Shot on iPhone
Rosé's "new trick" music video passed roughly 25 million YouTube views about two days after release, and every frame of it was shot on an iPhone 18 Pro. The BLACKPINK singer's first solo music of 2026 came out on September 17 in the US (September 18 in Korea) through The Black Label and Atlantic Records.
The 3:01 single is a garage-punk, pop-punk track built on fast guitars and a sing-along hook. Rosé wrote it with Amy Allen and Andrew Wells, who also produced. Serban Ghenea mixed it and Chris Gehringer mastered it. Rosé told fans it is "the cutest thing we've ever made together." The session took place in May, two days after the Met Gala, according to the release details.
The video, directed by Dave Meyers, was filmed entirely on the iPhone 18 Pro as part of Apple's "Shot on iPhone" campaign, which Apple announced on September 9. Rosé fronts a garage band in a gym, rides in a vintage red sedan, hangs out with friends at a skatepark and sucks on a purple lollipop. InMusic reported about 11.6 million views in the first 24 hours. The iPhone 18 Pro's new variable aperture is the feature Apple is putting forward in the campaign, and a three-minute pop-punk video with a band, a car and a skatepark is a deliberately busy test of it. The video reached about 25 million views roughly two days in, per InMusic, which is more than double the day-one figure.
Critics got to the hook fast. Stereogum's Tom Breihan called it "an explosively catchy piece of bubblegum synth-punk."
The streaming numbers are more modest. According to PTKOREA, "new trick" entered Spotify's Global daily chart at No. 133 with 1,376,164 filtered streams. InMusic described that as the fourth-biggest 2026 song debut by a K-pop soloist. Billboard has not yet published chart data for the single.
The song lands in a year when all four BLACKPINK members have moved separately. Jennie released "FALLEN ANGEL," Lisa released "SaWaDiKa," and Jisoo released "CLICK." Rosé's last full project was the album rosie, released in December 2024, which included the global hit "APT." with Bruno Mars. For US readers, the pivot is the point: "APT." was pure pop with a drinking-game chant, and "new trick" swaps that for distortion and a skate-park video.
