The cast members will bring the story to life with diverse characters who all hold their own appeal. Gugudan's Kim Sejeong will take on the lead role of Ran Eun Ho, a schoolgirl who is optimistic about love but often finds herself having one-sided crushes. Kim Jung Hyun plays Hyun Tae Woon, who appears aloof and cold on the outside but actually has a warm and kind personality. Jang Dong Yoon plays the character of Song Dae Hwi who appears to be perfect but may be dealing with personal issues, Soompi reported.

For the teachers, Han Joo Wan is the Shim Kang Myung, a fair and quiet teacher. Han Sun Hwa plays Han Soo Ji, an attractive teacher who isn't afraid to put troublemakers in place. Kim Eung Woo, Lee Jae Yong round up the teaching staff while Sung Ji Roo plays Sejeong's father Ra Soon Bong, and Kim Hee Jung plays her mother Kim Sa Boon.

According to director Park JIn Suk, while "School 2017" is part of the "School" franchise, it will focus on different stories that have not been tackled by previous installments. The director said that the show will tackle the issues that students in 2017 are experiencing to connect with the viewers.

"I would like this to become a project that makes us question whether we are really taking care of the children that society needs to protect," Park Jin Suk said about "School 2017." It can be recalled that prior to finalizing the cast, "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" star Kim Yoo Jung rejected the lead role in the series. Luckily, Gugudan's Kim Sejeong quickly accepted the role, Korea Portal reported.

KBS' "School" franchise is one of the longest running and most watched series in the network, launching "Sense 8's" Bai Doona, "Doctors" star Kim Rae Won and Empress Ki actress Ha Ji Won to superstardom. "School 2017" is expected to take the timeslot of "Fight for My Way" when it ends next month.
