U.S. financial analyst and senior vice president at Brown Brothers Harriman & Company, Shin Soon Kyu, recently published a book in Korean titled "Things You Can See If You Close Your Eyes" talking about his success despite being blind, reported Korea JoongAng Daily on Oct. 31.

Shin was diagnosed with glaucoma and retinal ablation, which eventually led to irreversible and progressive vision loss when he was just nine years old.

At present, 48-year-old Shin visited Seoul near Gwanghwamun on Tuesday to appear at a media conference to talk about his book "Things You Can See If You Close Your Eyes."

"I didn't want to explain how I succeeded," Shin said. "I wrote the book over three years using a braille computer because I wanted to highlight some emotional moments in my life that only I could experience because I'm different from others."

Shin saw his life in comparison with a vehicle navigation system.

"There are two types of car navigation systems," explained Shin. "One says, 'You took the wrong way,' while the other says, 'We'll try a different way.' My life was like the latter. Whenever I was on the wrong path, I re-evaluated my life. Fortunately, I like my current job and it really suits me."

Shin recognized how blindness and being an analyst are the same - they both see what is important.

In his book "Things You Can See If You Close Your Eyes," Shin discussed how he was brought up and the values that were instilled in him, and talked about being able to see, importance of dreaming, his work and his family.

Many other brave and persevering blind people climbed the ladder of success.

Akorra listed in their website famous blind people, including Joseph Pulitzer, to whom the Pulitzer Prizes that recognizes national honor for music literature and journalism was named after. The list also included famous opera singer Andrea Bocelli, Ray Charles who paved the way for African-Americans in the music industry and the famous woman who lived an extraordinary life, Hellen Keller.

Oddee also published on June 17, 2013 amazing blind people, which included Olympic athlete Marla Runyan, Brazilian surfer Derek Rabelo, painter John Ramblitt, NASCAR driver Mark Anthony Riccobono, 2012 Master Chef contender Christine Ha, photographer Pete Eckert and Architect Christopher Downey.
