'Magikarp Jump' Officially Out; Spinoff Game Getting Mixed Reviews From Both Critics And Players
Game developer Select Button Inc. has recently released a spin-off mobile game featuring what could be the weakest Pokemon in the lore - Magikarp. "Magikarp Jump" is the current talk among the Pokemon fandom as the new app is getting mixed reviews from players and game buffs alike.
"Magikarp Jump" officially kicked off on May 24 in North America and was deemed as one of those clicker mobile titles where players will have to do a tap fest on their smartphones' displays to attain something or fulfill specific missions, according to Time. That being said, the game will surely grow to anyone who has played it as it is pretty much addicting and at the same time a perfect time killer. The publication even described it as a game that is "probably dumb enough to work."
Other game connoisseurs, on the other hand, find "Magikarp Jump" not amusing at all due to its repetitive gameplay. Forbes highlighted a point in the game where the aquatic jumper has already maxed out its attributes that force it to retire from the game provided that it lost a battle. Players are then prompted to start from scratch, though their progress as trainers will be retained. Additionally, a Magikarp can also get killed when another Pokemon - a Pigeotto, flies by and swoops down making it its meal.
Magikarp will be accompanied by a little girl within the game that serves as its trainer. Other human nonplayable characters include Mayor Karp that will be introducing himself at the beginning of "Magikarp Jump," Flop Hoppington, Roddy Tackle, and the character that goes by the moniker Man of Mystery.
"Magikarp Jump" can now be downloaded on both iOS and Android. Check out a couple of videos featuring the newly released title including some first few minutes of gameplay:
