Seventeen Wows Audience With New Image In Comeback Showcase

Seventeen revealed a new side to them in their recent comeback showcase for their 4th mini album, 'Al1'. On May 23, the 13-member group held a sold-out comeback showcase where they performed their new songs including title track 'Don't Wanna Cry' and talked about their new brand of music.

Following the release of the official MV for 'Don't Wanna Cry', which garnered 1 million views in less than 12 hours, Seventeen faced the press before the comeback showcase and talked about how they grew as artists. Seventeen leader S.Coups said, "We've been showing a boy's love story through our music till now, but this time, we're showing a boy's sorrow. Because of how different our comeback is, it feels like we're making our debut for the second time."

The self-producing group that's been known to sing energetic and youthful songs shared how they are capable of exploring other music genres as well. This time around, Seventeen is coming out with a title track with an EDM sound. Resident producer and composer Woozi said, "'Don't Wanna Cry' is a genre that Seventeen has never done before. We discussed what would be the best way to express a boy's sorrow, and we decided on EDM. We think we'll be able to reach deep and bring up a lot of emotions. I'm happy with how the song came out."

Hoshi, who is in charge of making the choreography of Seventeen, also shared his thoughts about showing a different performance for 'Don't Wanna Cry'. "We worked together with a performance team. We tried to express the sorrow and complicated feelings of our lyrics in our choreography. Our new dance is one to watch out for. Our previous dance routines were powerful and energetic, but we tried to put an emphasis on 'lines' in this new one."

When asked about being compared to big seniors EXO and BTS, Seventeen humbly responded, "It's an honor to be grouped with such great groups. It makes us want to emulate them and keep making our own unique music."

Only 2 years into the music scene, Seventeen has already made a name for themselves by being personally involved in making their own albums and it remains the same for 'Al1'. According to Woozi, "Every member gets very serious when making our albums. Because we've had such a bright and energetic image so far, it's been hard to show the depth of our music. We wanted to show everyone that we've been working harder on that. For every album we release, we get more involved in the creation process by sharing our opinions and finding the best solutions."

On the topic of rivals, S.Coups was quick to give a modest answer saying, "Our biggest rivals are our former selves." Seventeen will start promoting their new single, 'Don't Wanna Cry' on music shows starting May 24. Best of luck to the boys!
