Netflix Latest News & Update: Membership, Premium Subscription Fee Overview; Surge Pricing In Other Countries Not True Says Company Exec
Netflix is expected to increase the monthly subscription fees as tests are now being conducted in Australia where new customers that sign up on weekends are set to pay up to AU$3 more for membership. That said, new members will now have to pay AU$9.99 up to AU$13.99 per month, while the Premium plan increases up to AU$17.99 monthly.
Netflix Price Hike Testing May Extend To Other Countries
The Netflix Basic plan will allow one screen at a time to get an access to the streaming video site. On the other hand, the Standard plan allows two screens to gain access at the same time, and the video is streamed in HD. With the Premium plan, however, it lets the viewers stream in UHD, even as many as four screens at the same time.
Netflix price hikes in Australia, if applied to the US pricing with the same percentage, the rate for the Basic plan per month would go from the current $7.99 up to $8.99. As for the Standard Plan, it will increase up to $11.99 every month, while the Premium plan may see an increase of up to $17.99 each month. Reports also suggest that the company could not confirm if the price increase will remain or if the same price hike testing will also happen in other countries, Phone Arena reported.
Netflix Is Not Testing Surge Pricing
Netflix is making some price testing, and reports claim that these may lead to surge pricing at the higher use time periods. However, Netflix chief communications officer Jonathan Freedland stated that this is incorrect. Meantime, further reports suggest that if Netflix would consider price hikes, it would be necessary, given that a price increase would help the company's revenue, which is needed to enable Netflix to keep on producing content for the international viewers, USAToday reported.
