May 14th, 2017: North Korea's latest missile test has put everyone on high alert. In a surprising turn of events, a missile launched from near the city of Kusong, hit the water just 60 miles away from the city of Vladivostok which is located in Eastern Russia. This missile is said to the only missile ever tested by North Korea that has come this close to the Russian Territory.

According to the Japanese Defence Ministry, the projectile was in the air for 30 minutes and had reached an altitude of 2000 km or 1240 miles.

According to David Wright, who is the co-director of the Union of Concerned Scientists in America, if the missile reached the estimated height and flight time then it could easily reach Guam, which is an American Territory in the Pacific.

Guam is also the home to Anderson Air Force base which houses heavy military bombers like the B-52, B1 etc.Russia had instantly put its Eastern aerial air defenses on high alert. Viktor Ozerov, who is head of the Federation Council Committee on Defence and security in Russia, said

"We cannot fail to understand that the territory of Russia is not only an object for an attack but also a place where a missile may fall. In order to protect ourselves from possible incidents, we will keep our air defense systems in the Far East in a state of increased combat readiness"

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said "Let this latest provocation serve as a call for all nations to implement far stronger sanctions against North Korea"

China took a diplomatic stand and their Foreign Ministry said "The current situation on the Korean Peninsula is complex and sensitive. All sides should exercise restraint and refrain from taking actions that would further escalate tensions in the region"
