World Series 2015 Game 5: Kansas City Royals Hailed Champions; New York Mets Lose By 7-2!
The Kansas City Royals' World Series hopes have been realized, after winning Game 5 of the MLB championships matchup against the New York Mets, according to Yahoo! Sports. After trailing for most of the game, the Royals tied the score at 2-2 in the ninth inning. They broke away and seized the championship in the 12th inning through a five-run burst.
The play that brought the game closer was Eric Hosmer's mad dash to home to finally tie the game, as recapped by USA Today. It came during a precarious time, with two outs, at the bottom of the ninth.
Had the first baseman been any slower, the result of the game would have been different, according to sources. The Mets were riding on a perceived home court advantage, with the ballpark packed mostly of New Yorkers.
But the highlight of the match was the turn of events during the 12th inning, sparked by pinch hitter Christian Colon. He knocked in center fielder Jarrod Dyson for the go-ahead point. The last three runs were ushered in by Lorenzo Cain when he hit a bases-clearing double.
The game finally came to a close when Royals reliever Wade David took to the mound and delivered the last three outs, as recapped by Yahoo! Sports.
The Game 5 comeback is not the Kansas City Royals' World Series first: they also stole Game 4, beating the Mets 5-3 and taking the penultimate win, according to CNN. The Mets were the first to put a notch in the scoreboard, from a homerun by Michael Conforto at the end of the third inning. The Royals had the last say, earning their last three points through homeruns all in the eighth inning.
The World Series MVP was awarded to Royals catcher Salvador Perez, as reported by ESPN. He was the first catcher to win the award since Blue Jays' Pat Borders bagged his in the 1992 World Series.
