Ruling the box office of South Korea for three successive weeks is local film "Veteran" with "Fantastic Four" and "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" at fourth and fifth place respectively.

"Veteran," under the production of Jo Sung-Min and Kang Hye-Jung, contributes to 43.5% of the box office revenues of South Korea on Aug. 21-23, earning $60 million as reported by the KOBIS database of Korean Film Council.

The box office detective thriller movie is directed by Ryoo Seung-wan and stars Hwang Jung-min, a cop who chases a corrupt mogul. The movie is close to hitting 10 million admissions, which is usually an indicator for a film's achievement - according to local industry observers.

An article by the Hollywood Reporter states that only a handful of films have reached that certain number, which comprises one-fifth of the entire population of South Korea, of admissions.

Among the films that have reached the 10 million mark include "Haeundae" at 11.45 million, "The Thieves" at 12.98 million and "Roaring Currents" topping the list at 16.91 million.

The "Veteran" is set for release at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 10-20.

"Assassination," an action film by Showbox/Mediaplex, has crossed the 10 million mark as well with 11.58 million admissions last week. The movie has contributed to 15.4% of the shares at $75.12 million, as it continues to attract viewers on its fifth week.

"Fantastic Four" on fourth place has 7.3% of box office shares with earnings at $2 million, while "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" at fifth place accounts for 4.4%.
