Actor Johnny Depp surprised fans on Wednesday by popping up in the Pirates of The Caribbean ride at the Disneyland Resort. He came out dressed as his pirate alter-go Captain Jack Sparrow, completely in character. Riders who were there to witness were quick to whip out their phones and cameras to record the delightful surprise by Johnny Depp. Videos of the actor in costume ordering people to get off the ride quickly spread on social media sites.
There were animatronic versions of Jack Sparrow in the said ride, but witnesses on the ride squealed and screamed when they realized that it was indeed Johnny Depp talking in front of them. One witness, Sarah Saryan, shared the one-of-a-kind experience. Sarah says, "We have had some great Disney experiences," she continued, "This is, by far, one of the best."
Angelica Ramos, another witness, says there was some talk that day in the park that Johnny Depp was there. As soon as she heard the buzz, she quickly fell in line for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and saw Depp. According to her, her "life is complete" after the experience of seeing the Hollywood actor up close. Dozens of park-goers that day were amazed to hear the news that an actor was there to give fans a visit and immediately took to social media to tweet about the incident. One Twitter user posted, "I could die," along with a video she took of Johnny Depp being in character.
Johnny Depp's appearance came after the ride celebrated its 50th anniversary and before the next Pirates of the Caribbean installment, Dead Men Tell No Tales, opens on May 26. The upcoming film will show the return of Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Depp himself. The plot will follow Sparrow's pursuit of the Trident of Poseidon in a battle against antagonist Captain Salazar, who will be played by Javier Bardem.
