Nintendo has set new records in the history of the gaming world. And the credit for the success can be headed to "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." No doubt, Nintendo Switch has offered an innovative gaming experience, but the company would not experience such a massive success without Zelda.
Nintendo Switch and "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" has broken the entire records in the gaming industry. The NPD Group's March report disclosed that the hardware has boomed to 91% which is around $485 million and the game has increased by 50% which is around $612 million. Although the PC games category actually fell 25%, but overall the industry has jumped to 24% which is around $1.36 million.
There is no doubt that "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" has contributed an enormous amount of success to Nintendo Switch. But Nintendo has strengthened its grounds through its innovative technology in hardware. The Nintendo Switch has the biggest hardware launch for a Nintendo platform and the second biggest launch of any video game platform.
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" was about to top the NPD's chart but Ubisoft's "Ghost Recon: Wildlands" has secured the top position. But it should be noted that the digital sales of Zelda for Nintendo Switch was not included in the chart. Zelda has been in the gaming industry around 1987 and NPD started tracking in 1995.
The total amount fetches by "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" from 1995 till present is whopping $1.4 billion. It can be said that Zelda is the top selling property of all time with the super adventurous gameplay for Nintendo Switch. The game is selling 54% more revenue than the next best-selling franchise, Resident event.
The innovative hardware of Nintendo Switch and massive success of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" combined and boomed the present gaming industry. The success of the gaming console and the games are interdependent and co-related to each other. And the combined success has many more years to come.
