Google To Launch Next Pixel With Curved Display; LG or Samsung To Supply OLED Screens
Google has reportedly invested in LG Display in order to stable its supply for flexible OLED screens for its Pixel phones. This might ease the OLED supply problems for its next generation Pixel phones. It is possible that the next generation of Google Pixel might have a curved screen.
Reports are coming from Korea's Yonhap News and Electronic Times that Goodge would invest a trillion won $875 million or more to secure a production line dedicated to its own smartphone lineup. Besides, the reports also revealed that the search giant would reserve some flexible OLED screens for its other devices like Pixel smart watches.
LG Display is speculated to mull the offer as it will be a strategic investment for the company. According to Tech Crunch, if the reports are true, then the next generation of Google Pixel phones will be built in LG's $1.3 billion flexible OLED line in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province. And for its Nexus phones, Google might take help of partners like HTC and Huawei to control all aspects of the devices and hardware.
Google has taken charge of its Pixel lineup when it comes to design and hardware. Google Pixel lineup was the best ever Google device, but it was only launched in US, UK, Germany, Canada and Australia. Even in those nations, it was pretty hard to find the phone. Besides, there are speculations that Samsung might be the second choice of Google for fulfilling the supply of OLED curved screen.
Recently, Samsung has launched its Galaxy S8 with the curved screen which offers an immense display experience to the users. And Apple has recently ordered 70 million OLED display from Samsung. The chances that Google will consider Samsung over LG to fulfill its OLED demand are high. Or else, there are possibilities that the search giant selects LG over Samsung because of LG's availability to supply LG curved display on huge quantity.
