After a long wait, Adult Swim has released the first episode of "Rick and Morty" Season 3 as an April Fools' Day treat for fans of the show. For its first episode, the animated series proved once again why it became such a phenomenon as it topped its record for the most number of jokes thrown in one episode.

According to a report by Den of Geek,  the first episode proved to be a fitting teaser for what was to come when Adult Swim releases the entire season. Rick and Morty's Season 3 Episode 1 entitled "The Rickshank Redemption" managed to chock out a total of 205 jokes in a span of just 22 minutes and 46 seconds. This gives the season 3 pilot an average of 9.13 jokes per minute as compared to the episode "Total Rickall" with 15 total jokes.

As if the stats are not enough, "Rick and Morty" writer Dan Guterman said that how fans accepted the first episode will pretty much be an indication of how they will react to the rest of the season. He said that the rest of the season will dish out the hyuks in multiples.

"If you loved that episode, we top it this season, multiple times," he tweeted. "If you hated it, we top it this season, multiple times."

"Rick and Morty" Season 3 Episode 1 mainly drew inspiration from the movie "The Shawshank Redemption" as the play on the title has suggested. As a fan service, "the Rickshank Redemption" made plenty of references to events in the previous season to tie in the season with how the story has run so far.

As an additional treat to fans of Disney's beloved "Gravity Falls," "Rick and Morty" Season 3 episode 1 also made a lot of reference to the defunct show. It made use of items like a coffee mug, notepad, and pen when Rick opened a portal to escape the Council of Ricks. It can be recalled that these were the very same items that Grunkle Stan lost in the portal in the Disney show, CP reported.

Two of the Ricks also looked like Dipper and Mabel, the main characters of Gravity Falls. It can be recalled that the close friendship between Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch and "Rick and Morty" co-creator Justin Roiland are great friends and often leave easter eggs for each other's shows on their work.
