Microsoft's Surface team chief, Panos Panay confirmed the rumors about the existence of Surface Mini tablet, saying that it's a Microsoft device that "never made it out in the market," according to a  Wired report via Tech Times.

Panos had a 7-inch Surface Mini that he used during late nights when ideas would wake him up for note taking and email drafting, according to Tech Radar. If the device made it out into the market it would have competed to Apple's iPad Mini, instead they had introduced the successful Surface Book for the consumers, according to Tech Times.

The Surface team chief described the device as "It was like a Moleskine," as Panay would describe the Surface Mini tablet. "It was awesome." According to The Verge.

The Surface Mini rumor started to circulate around the internet on July 2014 saying that its release date is on summer of the same year however, the rumors quickly faded due to false information.

Vostrostone, a China-based electronic retailer posted Surface Mini accessories on amazon in April 2014 that caused consumers to expect the device release date. Until May 2014, Surface Pro 3 was launched during the Microsoft event and there were still no information mentioned about the tablet, reported in Tech Times.

The Microsoft never confirmed about the device existence even though there were slips on a Surface Pro 3's manual that the tablet's name appeared numerous times in the description. During the Microsoft earnings report in 2014, a decision was made "to not ship a new form factor" from the Surface Department, reported on Techradar.

Panay's interview with Wired made the first acknowledgement of the Micosoft Surface Mini tablet, reported on The Verge.

The Microsoft Surface Mini tablet made a mark in the electronics history and for Panay even though the device was never released out for the public. As Panos Panay described the gadget in reports in past tense represents that it will never be released out in the public in the future, according to Tech Times.
