Kim Hyun Joong Caught Drunk Driving; Comeback Event Reportedly Cancelled
Singer-actor Kim Hyun Joong got his license suspended because of drunk driving. He was caught passed out behind the wheel early Sunday morning and turned positive for the blood alcohol test. The incident reportedly caused his upcoming comeback event to be canceled.
According to Soompi, Channel A reported that Kim Hyun Joong turned up with a 0.075 percent blood alcohol level when the police found him sleeping behind the wheel at around 2 a.m. KST Sunday. The police arrived after another driver reported that the car hadn't moved for a while. His management label KeyEast Entertainment admitted Thursday that the singer-actor had been "drinking with his friends near his house and he was asked to move his car by a parking attendant. He drove to comply with this."
The label explained that Kim Hyun Joong had been so busy preparing for his upcoming concert that he hadn't caught any sleep for the past days. He also "didn't even drive 1 kilometer" but still got subjected to the blood alcohol test. "Regardless of the reason, it was wrong for Kim Hyun Joong to get behind the wheel and he understands that what he did is wrong and he is reflecting," stated KeyEast Entertainment.
The star of the 2010 romantic-comedy series "Playful Kiss" got discharged from the military in February and planned to hold a fan meeting to launch his comeback. The drunk driving incident, however, didn't just take away Kim Hyun Joong's license. According to allkpop, Biz Enter reported that the recent scandal is "making it hard for the fan meeting to take place as scheduled" and that they're "pretty sure they're wrapping up the event as a cancellation."
Kim Hyun Joong took a step from the limelight after he was embroiled in controversies since 2014. His ex-girlfriend known only by the public as Miss Choi accused him of domestic violence and the father of her baby. The entertainer decided to pick up his career after Miss Choi was indicted in January for lying about the charges.
