'Deadpool 2' News: Brad Pitt, Michael Shannon Are Top Choices To Play Cable
Is Brad Pitt going to add star power to "Deadpool 2" by appearing as Marvel character Cable? Rumors are rife that the actor is being heavily considered to join the action-packed franchise and the interest in not just one-sided.
According to an exclusive report by Collider, reliable sources shared that Brad Pitt was being eyed to fill the part of Cable in "Deadpool 2" and the actor did not dismiss the possibility flat out. While there has been no confirmation yet, the decision may depend on Brad Pitt's availability. He is reportedly in the midst of filming for "World War Z 2" so the schedules could get a bit mixed up.
Aside from Brad Pitt, "Man of Steel" actor Michael Shannon is also reportedly being considered for the part. Shannon is no stranger to playing characters from a superhero franchise since he played Superman's nemesis BIzarro in the DC franchise. "Stranger Things'" Chief Hopper David Harbour has also been thrown in the mix of choices for the key character in "Deadpool 2".
Meanwhile, artist BossLogic gave fans a taste of what it would feel like to have Michael Shannon take on the role as he shared on Twitter his artist's depiction of the actor as a Marvel superhero. Movieweb reported that a "Deadpool 2" concept art of Brad Pitt as Cable was earlier leaked but the artwork was already taken down by 20th Century Fox.
There is also some strong fan support for "Don't Breathe" actor Stephen Lange to take on the role because he fits the profile and the looks of Cable from the Marvel comics. Dolph Lundgren, Ron Perlman and Russel Crowe have also reportedly become choices for the role for "Deadpool 2".
"Deadpool 2" writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have earlier stated that they are looking for an "uber-masculine" actor to play Cable in contrast to Ryan Reynold's portrayal of Deadpool with a "hint of femininity." Marvel's Cable is actually the son of X-Men's Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Jean Grey who was taken 2,000 years into the future of Earth-4935. He figures heavily into the storylines of the X-Men, Avengers and X-Factor.
